Greetings from Hong Kong
Well it's currently 1304 on Monday and I'm adding my first entry from Hong Kong. Getting here was a bit of a struggle.
After eventually packing and getting to the airport me and Craig started drinking at 8am. Only a couple of doubles, nothing serious. Then when our flight to Heathrow was next in line to take off the captain bottled it and decided there was too much snow and ice on the wings for a safe take off. The plane then had to return to the terminal to get its wings cleaned but while we were waiting on that happening the runway got shut because of too much snow. That meant we had to wait for the runway to be cleared, then for our wings to be cleaned before we eventually got into the air, roughly three hours later than planned.
That wouldn't have been so bad except our flight to Hong Kong had left Heathrow half an hour before we got there so we had to be put on a later flight which meant killing six hours in Heathrow. We just kicked about the shops and had a steak in a bar to kill time.
Our flight to Hong Kong left just before seven o'clock in the evening and went pretty well. It was easily the best BA flight I've been on. I watched The Island and most of The Wedding Crashers and slept quite a bit as well so the flight went by quite quickly.
Once we arrived in Hong Kong we got a taxi to our hostel which was nice and clean but our room was fairly small. After leaving our bags we took a walk down Nathan Road which is one of the busiest and longest shopping streets in Hong Kong. We also watched the light show which is on every night at 8pm. It's a show of flashing lights and lasers on the side of some of the skyscrapers on Hong Kong island. It was pretty cool but I was kinda falling asleep at the time and it went on about five minutes too long.
Yesterday we went to Ngong Ping village on Lantau Island which has a buddhist monastry and has a 32 metre bronze Buddha statue at the top of a hill. That was really impressive and had a fantastic view of all the mountains around. We then went back to Kowloon and looked around the Hong Kong Space Museum ,which was really interesting, before we went to Hard Rock Cafe for something to eat. I had a steak, obviously.
After that we decided to see a film but had to kill an hour before it started. We ended up sitting in a shopping centre, one of about a million here, where Craig fell asleep several times. We watched just Like Heaven which was funnier than we expected. The only reason we chose that was because it was the only film in English.
We ended up getting to bed at about eleven last night and didn't wake up until about 1020 this morning. We've just been moved into a bigger room and are about to head to Disneyland.
