Message from the middle of nowhere

Me and Swag left Sydney at 3.30pm on Monday afternoon, had a meal break in Canberra, which seems the most soulless city I've ever been to, and eventually arrived in Euston at about 8am Tuesday. We had to wait around three hours until we got picked up and taken to the farm we're going to be working on.

The first thing we did there was catch up on the sleep we couldn't get on the coach. Then a guy from the farm gave us a lift into town so we could buy some food. I'm not sure we can expect a lift like that too often though. Last night we just read for a bit then went to sleep, not knowing what time we were expected to get up for work.

We got up around six and lay on our beds, dozing on and off until around half past nine when a guy shouted on us to tell us we start tomorrow at six. After that we had a quick breakfast and decided to walk into town for something to do.

The sun was hot and there were more than a few flies swarmiong around us on the long walk to town. We'd been told it was around 5km to town but I reckon it's nearer seven. After walking for over an hour and a half a guy with a ute pulled over and gestured for us to jump in the back so we did and he took us the rest of the way into town, saving us a good twenty minutes walking.

The town here is tiny and not very exciting. Luckily we found this internet cafe because we tend not to get a signal on our phones here.

I wonder how work will be.

I've got a job!

It's finally happened. Not in Sydney though. Me and Swag are going fruit picking in Euston. Not entirely sure what fruit it is but we think it's grapes. Not entirely sure if we're picking, packing or pruning. Don't know exactly how much we're getting paid either but at least it's money and we'll be able to go to the Grand Prix in Melbourne on 2nd April. More details when I know them.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year guys! We had a pretty good Hogmanay. We spent the day in the city then headed up to the Harbour Brodge between six and seven to try and get a space to see in the new year. It was already getting pretty busy by that point but we managed to get a good space on some rocks in the park next to the bridge. We sat there to watch the family fireworks at nine o'clock and were still there for midnight to see the main display. It was fantastic! It was even better than being at the steeple.

After we'd seen in the new year there we headed back towards the city centre but ended up spending hours in the streets by the bridge as all the pubs there were letting their customers drink in the streets outside and had big sound systems in the street playing music, so we just joined in there. We got talking to a few different groups of people, mostly Scottish and Irish as it turned out.

New Year's Day was ridiculously hot, somewhere around 44 degrees so I just stayed in all day. Swag and Mac went out for a bit but returned, telling me about how they could feel the wind burning their eyes. Probably a bit different to the weather back home eh?

One other thing. The Hoff starts his world tour over here next month so we might try and score ourselves some tickets to see him live. That'd be genius.
